1. How old do I have to be to enroll in the Driver’s Education Program?
At ALOHA we prefer that you be a minimum of 15 years and 3 months. This will give you plenty of time to complete both Drivers Education, Behind-the-Wheel training and the additional DMV requirements by your 16th birthday. You must have your DMV Permit for 6 months before they will allow you take the test to obtain your Provisional License.
2. What does Driver’s Education consist of?
DMV requires 25 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours behind the wheel instruction. It is important to note that proof of an additional 50 hours of behind the wheel practice with a licensed driver 25 years or older is needed prior to taking the test, 10 of the 50 hours must be at night.
3. What are the Permit/Licensing requirements?
Effective January 1, 2004, the DMV has dictated that anyone applying for a Learner's Permit, who is between the ages of 15 1/2 and 18, must be enrolled simultaneously in a driver education (classroom) program and a driver training (six hours of on-the-road instruction) program with a
driving school. Upon completion of the classroom education, we will then issue the individual two certificates. (1) Completion of Classroom Driver Education (OL237 form) and (2) Certificate of Enrollment in Driver Training (OL392 form).
4. I took my Drivers Education elsewhere, can I sign up for Behind-the-Wheel at Aloha?
Yes, you can take your Behind-the-Wheel at ALOHA, you actually will need to enroll in Behind-the-wheel prior to going to DMV to take your permit test (DMV requires that you have a Proof of Enrollment Certificate from a licensed driving school in order to take your written permit test). So give us a call as soon as you can to arrange to enroll in Behind-the-Wheel so you can take your permit test. We will inform you of everything you will need in order to take the permit test at DMV.
